PRIVATE COACHING

Private Coaching

Whether you are new to climbing, have reached a plateau in your ability or just want to be coached out of bad habits you may have picked up, our coaches are available to get you off on the right foot.

Each member of our team offers a personalised approach to coaching based on a combined 15 years of climbing experience.

Whether you respond to the softly softly approach or need more “vigorous” encouragement, we have got you covered.

Below, you find a short bio of each of our coaches, have a read, and see who best fits your requirements. If you are happy, send them a little email.

To get the best out of being coached, a minimum of 4 hours coaching is best spread over two 2 hour sessions although we would recommend 2 hours a week for 4 weeks.

Meet our coaches below.

JAKE

"I have had the pleasure of working with a wide variety of clients over the years, from complete novices to those who have reached a plateau and desire to improve. I use my experience to help develop self-confidence, spot weaknesses, improve technique and give training advice. I do my utmost to create a good environment for the people I coach as climbing is as much about mental fortitude as it is for the body.

Having been at Highball for many years, I have vast experience with coaching our junior programs and sharing my passion for climbing with them, It has been a joy helping them develop into strong individuals, passionate climbers, and become successful in competitions."

MARC

"I have been climbing for 8 years and coaching at Highball for over 4 years. I like to focus on the basics; the importance of good footwork, balance, and body position. I favour static climbing over dynamic and promote technique over brute strength.

You will often find me talking about the physics of climbing; angles, directions of force, and, especially, conservation of energy. It's all about putting in minimum effort for maximum gain - a lazy climber is an efficient climber!"

RICHARD

"I have been climbing for roughly 8 years now and I enjoyed it so much from the get-go, that I instantly decided I wanted to make a career out of it. I started out instructing at outdoor activity parks, before getting a position as a coach/instructor at Highball in 2017.

I focus on having fun with my climbing and making that a priority on sessions; that and liberally spraying out a plethora of random facts. I'm a big lanky climber and thus enjoy climbing quite dynamically, slab is my nemesis. Currently, I'm trying to progress my crack climbing technique as much as possible when the blocs on the wall allow.

Ginger power."
