Women’s Social | Highball Events

Last month we introduced a new social evening specifically for women. Why do you ask? We have been asked whether there are any dedicated sessions, for casual climbing to meet like-minded women who want to find climbing partners or just have a social climb. We totally understand it can be overwhelming coming climbing by yourself, especially if it’s a busy time you come into the centre.

Katie and Steph have hosted a few sessions now and they have seen several participants swap numbers and already talk about lift sharing, which is awesome as that is exactly the aim of the session!

If you have been thinking about coming along, why not give it a go? All you need to do is book your space online or at reception (the session is free) and then pay your standard entry when you arrive.

Follow this link to book online for the Ladies Social Session.

Bloc of the Week | Highball Raffle

In February we are introducing a ‘Bloc of the Week’ mini raffle. ‘How will it work?’ we hear you ask. Well, there will be 1 dedicated boulder announced at the start of each week, with additional ‘star tags’. Once you have topped the route there will be a sheet stationed on the ‘Toblerone’ to write your name on for the chance of winning some awesome prizes. There is only 1 prize to win each week, so well worth entering each time the new bloc is announced! The first ‘Bloc of the Week’ will give everyone a chance of winning a 10 Climb Pass!

Every Monday will see the ‘Bloc of the Week’ and the prize announced, along with the winner of the raffle from the previous week.

These prizes will include, but aren’t limited too:

  • 5/10 Climb Pass
  • 1 Month Free Climbing
  • Tea/coffee for a month
  • Chalk & Chalk Bag
  • Climbing Brush
  • Lots more prizes!

Keep an eye on socials as we will annouce this again come Monday!

Yoga Classes | Highball Studio

Classes are back and with a slight change too! We have been sorting out a new calendar with the new improved and dedicated studio area. Kate’s Classes are back on the calendar with a new handstand class taking place Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings! Lewie from Climbing Physio is also providing a mobility and movement class, perfect for a pre-climb warm-up or post-climb cooldown, each week on Wednesdays will cover a different topic, allowing you to jump in whenever or follow the whole 4-week plan, find out more on the Yoga Page.

All sessions are bookable through the Yoga Page and are free for V12 members, £4 plus ‘punch’ for punchcard holders or £6 for a guest. Booking is essential for these classes as spaces are limited! Don’t forget to check-in at reception too if you are coming to a Studio Class!

Fundraising for YSFR | Highball Charity Work

A few of our crew members have an exciting project underway – they are volunteering to build a bouldering wall for refugees stranded in Lesvos, Greece! This March our crew members will be completing an epic climbing/rowing marathon to help raise funds for building supplies (keep your eyes peeled for more details!).

This will be in aid of Yoga and Sports for Refugees and the wall will be built as an awesome addition to their gym. Crew member Katie volunteered with YSFR in August last year and has seen the incredible work that they do – using sport as a way to bring dignity, empowerment, and support in both mental and physical health, to people living in the most inhumane conditions. We don’t need to preach about the benefits of bouldering as a sport – our team hopes that along with YSFR they can help bring those benefits to the refugee community in Lesvos.

If you would like to support this amazing project please spread the word! If you are able to donate then you can do so here – https://gogetfunding.com/bouldering-wall-for-ysfr/

Round 3 | Winter Bouldering League

Round 3 of the WBL saw Percy Bishton and Rob Napier come in and set some bangers! Its been a while since we’ve had Percy in setting from the Climbing works, so its always a pleasure to get the original setters back.

If you didn’t know already Percy has been appointed Chief Route Setter for Bouldering within Tokyo 2020! We do strive to try and bring in the best route setters we can, this article proves how good Percy is!

The comp wall will stay up until early March, when it will need to be stripped for the BMCs YCS (which we are hosting on the 7th March), so plenty of time to get on those projects!

Lights Out | Highball Events

With the days slowly becoming longer, the nights are getting shorter. That means we only have one more instalment of lights out climbing! Normally we would run these on a Friday, but in February we are running a family-friendly session on a Sunday evening!

With this lights out taking place on a Sunday that means it starts earlier at 17:00, there isn’t any climbing after this time WITHOUT a head torch. We have a very LIMITED supply of head torches so please please please, if you can, bring your own as we always run out!

Lights Out Dates are:
Sunday 16th Feb at 17:00
