BMC Youth Climbing Series | Highball Events

As you may have seen or heard we are hosting the BMC Youth Climbing Series on the 7th March this month!

We are expecting a large number of competitors and supervising parties, along with members of the BMC throughout the event. The BMC does require us to close the centre to the general public to allow the appropriate space for the competitors, volunteers and parents.
So, unfortunately, that does mean anyone not competing will not be able to climb that day*.

For more info on the event head to our news piece about the YCS.

*Please note, if you are on a NICAS/NIBAS session or supervised session throughout the day these are still running.

New Matting Incoming! | Highball Events

On the 3rd March, we are spending over £25k replacing a large section of our matting! This will take place around the boulder, so will include Zone 1, 2, 3 and half of Zone 4 (back of the boulder). With this being such a massive job we are going to be opening later at a time of 14:00*.

The new mats will be a lot stiffer/harder than the old mats, so it's even more important to be aware of how you are coming off any boulder problem, and the 'climb down and step off' approach is going to be encouraged even more while the new mats soften up.

There will be signs around the centre to remind everyone of this change if you have any questions please come and speak to a member of the crew.

*This is subject to change with how long it could take to install the matting.

TBC Masters | Highball Events

TBC Masters date is confirmed! This year the TBC Masters event is taking place on Friday 17th April! Registration will open shortly (keep an eye on socials) and cost £3 this year, which includes your scorecard! (Entry to the centre will still need to be paid on the night)

Prizes up for grabs this year include Cash Prizes for the top 3 competitors in Male and Female, with some additional goodies for those who make it through to the final! As usual, we will be having a big Raffle on the evening and Hot Food will be available throughout too!

There will be a qualification round starting at 18:00 and finishing at 20:30, within the qualifier, there are 25 blocs for everyone to compete on. The top 10 Male and Female competitors (after TopGun is revealed) will be put through to the Grand Final on the X-Cult Comp Wall, to battle it out in front of the awesome Highball Crowd.

There will be 4 final blocs for both Male and Female, and during the final, we will be using the '4 Minutes Plus' timing format giving the competitors as much time as possible to send the blocs!

Unsure of the rules? Full rules for the event can be found here.

Round 4 | Winter Bouldering League

Round 4 of WBL takes place at the end of the month with Max Ayrton, one of The Big Flash Regulars, coming in and setting the final round for us!

Max has been route setting for a while and has been involved in a number of big events such as the British Bouldering Championships and the BMC Youth Open, so you know he's good at what he does! We're excited to have him back and once again setting on the X-Cult Comp Wall!

Once Round 4 has taken place we will be announcing the 10 finalists that go through to the Grand Final on the 3rd May!* If you are in the top 10 competitors and can't make it please let us know and we will be calling upon the next competitor! Remember to be in with a chance to get into the final you must have attended at least 3 of the 4 rounds!

*The date has changed from the 24th April
