The Atmosphere

Having the Chief Setter for the Bouldering in Tokyo 2020 meant the setting standards were through the roof this round! Percy, Rob and Guy pulled out all the holds to give as ranged blocs as possible, and potentially a little harder with the highest score of the evening being 228 from Gary Kitchen. Some funky blocs set alongside some more technical ones, the competitors complimented on the setting and having it spread throughout the Squad and Comp Wall definitely helped people get plenty of trys!

Attacking The Blocs

What an array of blocs! From the start of the comp wall all the way through the squad zone there where 30 blocs set, carefully watched over by Percy Bishton and set alongside Rob and Guy! The range of the blocs within round 3 meant there was a bit of everything! From the green volume bridging/offwidthing to the more techincal slab problems, such as the black Nomad bloc at the far end of the squad wall. With a bit of every style in the blocs, everyone had to pull out every trick they had up their sleeve to try and top each route. These blocs are up for 4 weeks before the YCS next month so still plenty of time to session the projects!

Wrap Up For December Edition

Overall round 3 was a quieter round but still plenty of strong psyched climbers! Scores really did range with some of the Youth competitors smashing the blocs more so than some of the senior competitors! Well done to everyone who competed though, it was certainly a tough round! The next round takes place in March due to the YCS early March, that allows the blocs to stay up longer than a week! The Grand Final will then take place on the 1st of May!
